If you’re in the foggy newborn days, recovering from birth and running on very little sleep, the thought of having someone come into your home might feel overwhelming. Maybe you’re looking around your space thinking, “This house is a mess. I can’t have a photo session right now.” But I want you to know something important: your home is more than ready, just as it is.

As a newborn photographer and a mom of two little ones, I’ve been there. I’ve stressed about clean floors, tidy dressers, and clutter-free counters. I’ve also come to realize those things aren’t what make a photo beautiful. Connection, light, and love are what really matter. Here’s how we’ll make magic for a stress free newborn photo session in your home.

You Don’t Have to Deep Clean

When I walk into your home, I’m not looking at the laundry pile in the corner or the dishes in the sink. I’m looking for light, and I’m looking for love. We’ll walk through your space together and choose the rooms that get the best natural light. Once we pick our spots, we may spend a few minutes tidying, clearing a dresser or moving a pile of diapers off the bed. But that’s it. I promise, no scrubbing floors or hiding baby gear required.

Once we’ve done a quick once-over, I’ll take care of the rest. I’ll choose angles that let you focus on snuggling your newborn baby, not worrying about the state of your home. And if a little clutter sneaks into a shot? That’s what creative cropping is for.

Messy Is Normal

Real life is rarely tidy, especially in those early postpartum days. I have a preschooler and a toddler, so believe me, I understand. At any given time, my floors are littered with toys, snack crumbs, and dog hair. It’s just part of the season we’re in.

The same is true in your home. A burp cloth on the couch. A stack of books next to the crib. Your toddler’s juice cup sitting next to your nursing spot on the bed. These aren’t imperfections, they’re details that tell your story. They’re signs of life, and they add depth and honesty to your photos. One day, these little signs of chaos will be gone. But the memories will stay.

The One Thing That Matters Most: Lighting

When it comes to making your home “photo-ready,” lighting is everything. It doesn’t matter if your walls are painted the perfect neutral or your décor is Pinterest-worthy. What matters is the light. I’ll find the best-lit spaces in your home, whether that’s a sunny corner of the nursery or the edge of your bed where morning light pours in.

And if your home doesn’t have huge windows? That’s okay too. I love the challenge of working with different types of light. Whether it’s a soft side light or a dreamy backlit scene, I’ll use what’s available to create something beautiful and full of warmth.

Stay in Your Comfiest Spot

In home newborn photography isn't about stiff poses or fancy outfits. They’re about cuddling your baby in the places you already spend your time. Maybe that’s your bed where you nurse and nap. Maybe it’s the nursery chair where you rock them to sleep. Or the couch where your toddler reads books beside you while you feed your newborn.

These places are filled with meaning, and they make the perfect backdrop. The goal is to capture the love that already exists in your daily life. You don’t need to move a muscle (unless the baby needs changing, then by all means!).

You Deserve to Relax

You’ve just brought a new baby into the world. You’re healing. You’re adjusting. You might be running on two hours of sleep and still wearing the same sweatshirt you wore yesterday. That’s okay.

In-home newborn photography sessions are baby-led and pressure-free. There’s no rush. No strict schedule. No “perfect” behavior required. We take breaks when your baby needs to nurse or be changed. We pause when your toddler needs a snack or a snuggle. We go at your family’s pace.

I’m not here to photograph a version of your life that’s cleaned up for social media. I’m here to capture the love that’s already there. The quiet moments. The chaos. The beauty in the realness of your life right now.
